課程概述

This semester, this course focuses on developing students’ speaking accuracy and fluency on a wide range of discussion topics/ issues. Specifically, students will engage in various forms of communicative activities, such as games, Q & A session, presentation, and role-play.  

課程目標
The course aims to acquaint students with process and principles of different kinds of discussions. By the end of the course, students will be able to (1) employ effective discussion strategies on a certain topic and (2) work collaboratively with their peers on classroom activities and role-play.  
課程要求
30% Activities, attitudes, and attendance: Students need to come to each class session on time and engage actively in various speaking-related activities. Your final grade will be lowered if you fail to do so.

15% Topic presentation: Each will lead 1 individual presentations based on a chosen Unit of the textbook. Students can creatively incorporate Q & A, activities, or games into their presentations.

30% Role play: In a group, students will perform 2 role play, once before Week 9 and once after it, each worth 15%, in which they incorporate "Grammar" and "Speaking skill" (of their chosen Units) into the scripts. Students can decide on a topic of their own interest for their groups. Each role play will last about 5-8 minutes. After the performance, students will present the language that they use for the class on the PowerPoint.

10% Student-led activity: In a pair, students will lead 1 "Study Skill" activity from a textbook unit. While you are free to design and lead the activity on your own, the topic must be closely related to the skill we are studying in the text.

15% Self-evaluation: Following the week after each presentation/activity/1st role play (a total of 3), each student will write and submit a 1-2 pager in which they reflect on his/her own performance. This formal report will include details of presentation preparations and evaluations.
